My Boudoir photo shooting Journey as a growing Adult | Zürich, Switzerland
Do you ever find yourself weighed down by insecurities, struggling to embrace your body, and questioning your self-worth as a growing young adult?
If so, you're not alone…
Many of us go through phases of self-doubt, and it can be challenging to break free from these negative thoughts.
But what if I told you there's a transformative experience waiting for you that can change the way you see yourself?
In this blog post, we'll explore the incredible journey of a young woman who had her fair share of insecurities until she embarked on a Boudoir Photo Shoot.
Meet Miss S.L., a 26-year-old high school teacher who stumbled upon the concept of a Boudoir photo shoot through a simple Google search.
By looking at her boudoir photos here, you might think: What is not to like about her body?
As a matter of fact, it might not just about her body but feeling of being insecured in general, which often happens to young ladies in their 20ies.
After she had done her session and left my studio, I sent her an email with few questions about herself, her experience and how her session was.
I was so surprised by her answers and they gave me constant goosebumps. I knew from the beginning she was very shy, but i didn't realise, it was more than that…
Below was her experience in her own words:
Did you have any obstacles or fears about doing a boudoir session?
"I had plenty of obstacles and fears before my first session with you. I was worried about my appearance, my shy nature... Almost only insecurities that concerned my person and my body. I even doubted my body hair. I thought that my biggest concern was my shy nature that I was worried could ruin our boudoir session."
What made you decided to take the leap of faith and do a boudoir session?
"When I first contacted you, I was in a moment of my life with plenty of insecurities about my work future, my relationship future, my future in general.
As if that wasn't enough, teaching young teenagers brought me closer to old insecurities about my body. For example, just a few days before contacting you, a student had confessed to me that she no longer wanted to eat in order to lose weight and achieve the "ideal body".
“At that moment, I asked myself what my "ideal body" was, if I had one, if I was satisfied with mine and, then, with my life choices. In short, at 26 years old everyone wonders what you will do and I am, today, at the moment in which I enter the world of work and I think I know myself and my body after years of doubts and uncertainties (which every now and then return) about imaginary body fat, body hair that is too dark, dry hair, features that need to be corrected...”
“I believe that all these reflections led me to want to test myself and to go out of my confort zone and approach an experience that could be the way to prove myself that I am a WOMAN, young but satisfied with herself after years of insecurities."
How did you feel before your session?
"Before my session I felt nervous as long as excited and curious."
How did feel during your Session?
"I would be lying if I said I immediately felt at ease.
At the beginning, upon meeting you and the make up artist, I immediately felt welcomed and in a safe and friendly place. However, this did not immediately had the effect of calming my worries or my shyness. In fact, I had to wait a moment before I felt comfortable.
Talking with you about the shooting but also about light and personal things helped a lot.
When we started shooting, the shyness was still there but the worries gradually faded until it even led me to suggest some shots to try."
Was the session different from what you expected it to be?
"Absolutely. I expected a detached session, where you would give me directions, adjust lights and then just shoot. Instead, you have always been very attentive to every detail, much more than I could have expected."
Did anything surprise you?
"Mainly myself. Your work was so fantastic that it allowed me to put my fears aside and be myself in a way that I though was not possible especially towards the end and during the second session."
Did anything change about the way you see your own body, sensuality or body confidence as a result of this session?
"At the end of each session I felt empowered. Seeing the final photos then made me realize that some details of my body that I hated for years could actually make the image even more beautiful and complete, or be completely invisible.
Today, whenever I have doubts about myself, I think back to the session and the results."
What would you say to people who say they can't do a boudoir session because they are too shy, nervous, etc?
"I'd say that I felt exactly the same, much so that I even had a bit of a stomach ache before entering the studio. Yet, the boudoir experience made me go beyond these feelings and understand that I am much more than I think.
My main advice to other women who haven't booked a boudoir session yet is to find the courage to try. Bring your worries and fears with you so you can see how they disappear as the session progresses.
I think it's the most enriching thing about the whole experience, something that also serves as a lesson for everyday life: Understanding what, who are and you can be, and how much strength you can demonstrate (and discover!)."
Would you you suggest someone else to book a session with me and why?
"Absolutely. The attention you put on lights, sets, lingerie, poses etc. it's amazing, first of all... But I would say that this doesn't particularly distinguish you from other photographers.
What sets you apart is your passion for your work and for other people. The effort you put into making the boudoir session a session focused on the person and not just on the photographs. It's not easy..., In fact, I think every shooting with you is different. You care so much about the details that can help the person feel at ease and appreciate themselves starting from pose, lights, sets, lingerie but in a personal way adapted to who you are in front of."
Is there anything else you would like to share?
"It's been a week since our last session but I can't wait to get back to your studio already hahaha... Thank you for everything Marina, really. Thank you for being an amazing and genuinely pure person."
