Self-Discovery through Boudoir and Nude Photography Session in Zürich, Switzerland.

“I Never Liked Photos of Myself” - Miss L’s Boudoir Journey of Self-Discovery through a sensual boudoir photoshoot with Boudoir Boutique by Marina Siahaan Photography in Fehraltorf, Zürich, Switzerland

There is something deeply intimate about seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes for the very first time.
Not hidden.
Not judged… Just seen.

When Miss L walked into my studio for her session, she carried something many women quietly carry with them every single day: the belief that they are simply “not photogenic.”

She told me softly during our session:

“I don’t have any good photos of myself.”

“I never liked the photos taken of me, even during holidays…”

“I don’t like taking selfies, because for some reason I always look awkward.”

And honestly? So many women say this before their session.

Not because they are not beautiful.
But because they have only ever seen themselves through:

Bad lighting, awkward angles, rushed holiday snapshots, overhead lamps, phone cameras held too close to the face, and years of self-criticism.

Miss L’s story is exactly why I believe so deeply in the transformative experience of Boudoir Photoshoot with Boudoir Boutique by Marina Siahaan Photography in Zürich has to offer.

Because sometimes, you do not need to change yourself.

You simply need to see yourself differently.

Why Women Do Boudoir Photography

Every woman comes to a boudoir session for a different reason.

Some women book a session as a gift for their partner.
Some celebrate a milestone.
Some want to reconnect with their femininity after motherhood, heartbreak, divorce, burnout, or years of neglecting themselves.

And some women, like Miss L, come because they are searching for themselves again.

When I asked her why she wanted to do a boudoir session, her answer stayed with me long after she left the studio.

She wrote:

“In the last year and half I have being in a sort of journey to know myself and to know what I want from me and others in the future.”

“Only until recently I did pay more attention to my body and discovered how much I love it.”

“I honestly thought that it would be the most intimate way to show myself how beautiful, strong, sensual and sexy I am, on my own skin.”

That sentence alone explains perfectly why women do boudoir.

Not for validation from others.
Not for social media.
Not to become someone else.

But to reconnect with themselves.

The “Before” Feeling Most Women Never Talk About

One of the most searched terms online is Boudoir Before and After.

Most people think this only refers to physical transformation.

But the real transformation is emotional.

The “before” is often invisible.

It looks like:

  • Hiding from cameras

  • Over analyzing every photo

  • Comparing yourself constantly

  • Feeling disconnected from your body

  • Thinking beauty belongs to “other women”

  • Feeling awkward being seen

Miss L arrived confident in conversation, intelligent, warm, and self-aware. But underneath that confidence, I could feel she was standing in the middle of a transition in life.

She spoke about wanting something more meaningful for her future.
She spoke about purpose.
About dreaming of becoming a health coach.
About feeling her energy fading in her current workplace.

Sometimes women book boudoir sessions exactly at this point in life:
between who they used to be and who they are becoming.

And honestly, these sessions become so much more than photos.

They become proof.

Proof that they are already enough.
Already beautiful.
Already worthy of being seen.

“The Problem Was Never Her”

During the session, I asked Miss L to show me the photos she disliked so much.

Holiday photos.
Phone selfies.
Snapshots under harsh overhead lights.

And immediately, I saw what I see so often as a boudoir photographer in Switzerland:

The problem was never her.

The lighting in the photos created shadows under her eyes.
The angle distorted her features.
The midday sun from above flattened her face and created harsh contrast.

But she?
She was beautiful.

Actually incredibly beautiful.

She had striking eyes, soft feminine features, cute laugh, beautiful hair, elegant legs, and a naturally sensual presence in front of the camera.

She just hadn't seen it yet.

This is why professional posing and lighting matter so much in Boudoir Photography.

A camera does not automatically capture beauty.
Light does.

Angles do.

Guidance does.

This is exactly why I guide every client throughout the entire session—from hand placement to posture, breathing, facial expression, and body positioning.

Most women are not “bad at photos.”

They simply have never been photographed intentionally.

A Relaxed Boudoir Photoshoot Experience in Zürich

Miss L wanted her session to feel:

  • Natural

  • Elegant

  • Sensual

  • Sexy

So we designed the session around softness and authenticity rather than overly dramatic glamour.

Her makeup was natural and glowing, enhancing her features rather than hiding them.
We focused on elegant posing, beautiful body lines, soft expressions, and artistic lighting.

She also shared her insecurities openly:

Like many women, she felt self-conscious about her stomach.
She worried slightly about her lips and feet appearing in photos.

And yet, what I loved most was her willingness to trust the process anyway.

That trust is where magic happens.

Because boudoir is not about perfection.

It is about surrendering the need to criticise yourself long enough to finally see yourself clearly.

Nude Photography and the Beauty of Vulnerability

One of Miss L’s dream images was a tasteful nude portrait from behind.

She imagined herself seated sideways, showing her back tattoo with only a slight profile of her face visible.

Elegant.
Minimal.
Artistic.

This style of nude photography is one of my favourite forms of portraiture.

Not because it is revealing.
But because it is deeply expressive.

Fine art nude photography is about shape, emotion, curves, shadows, texture, posture, and storytelling.

It transforms the female body into art.

For many women, these images become the most emotional photographs they have ever seen of themselves.

And when we captured that exact image she had envisioned, she looked at the back of the camera almost speechless.

She could not believe it was her.

But it was.

And that moment is something I will never get tired of witnessing as a boudoir photographer in Switzerland.

“I Am Even More in Love With Myself”

A few days after her session, I sent Miss L a sneak peek from her photoshoot.

Her email response honestly made me emotional.

She wrote:

“I can’t look away from my picture, I really love it!”

And later:

“I am honestly even more in love with myself, when I look at them :).”

“It made me realise that we should show our light every now and then.”

That sentence stayed with me:

Because women spend so much of their lives shrinking themselves.

Hiding.
Waiting.
Criticizing.
Dimming themselves.

And then suddenly, they see themselves illuminated properly for the first time.

Not only physically, emotionally too.

Boudoir Photography as a Turning Point.

What touched me most about Miss L’s story was not only her transformation in front of the camera.

It was the transformation happening in her life at the same time.

After her session, she shared with me that she wanted to pursue a future as a health coach.

She wrote:

“I want to put my new me, my energy into something more meaningful, with purpose.”

I remember telling her: Start now.

Because sometimes boudoir sessions awaken something bigger.

Confidence expands beyond photos.

Women leave the studio differently.

They speak differently.
Carry themselves differently.
Dream differently.

Not because the photos changed who they are.

But because the experience reminded them who they already were before the world taught them to doubt themselves.

Seeing Yourself Through a New Perspective

One of the most beautiful parts of my work at Boudoir Boutique by Marina Siahaan Photography in 8320 Fehraltorf, Switzerland is helping women see themselves from angles they have never experienced before.

Not only physically.

Emotionally too.

Miss L once believed she was not photogenic.

Now she has an album filled with elegant, sensual, artistic portraits that she describes as:

“Myself, my inside self on paper.”

And honestly, I cannot think of a more beautiful way to describe boudoir photography session
